When AirSuite was tasked with delivering battery-operated environment sensors for New Zealand schools — featuring display panels, cellular connectivity and a three-year battery life — they turned to Virscient for full-stack hardware, low-power embedded software and project management expertise.

AirSuite’s challenge

AirSuite, a trusted provider to the New Zealand Ministry of Education, needed to deploy next-generation environment monitors in classrooms. The brief included:

• a display panel integrated into the sensor
• “plug and play” installation by school staff (i.e., minimal wiring and infrastructure)
• monitoring key factors including CO₂ levels, temperature and humidity
• both cellular and battery-only operation
• minimum three-year battery life for autonomous deployment
• lightweight design and cost-effective hardware supporting nationwide rollout

Although AirSuite had strong software capabilities in-house, they lacked the hardware and wireless product engineering experience necessary to deliver the full end-to-end solution.

Firmware & embedded software features
Alongside the hardware, Virscient worked closely with AirSuite’s software team and third-party industrial designers to ensure seamless integration of sensors, display UI, RF/cellular stack and battery optimisation. The collaboration enabled parallel prototyping cycles, accelerating development and reducing time-to-market.

Testing, validation & production readiness
Virscient also managed the manufacturing supply chain and coordinated overseas manufacturing/vendor relationships. Project management covered multiple streams — hardware prototypes, firmware iterations, design for manufacturability and logistics — ensuring that deliverables aligned with budget, scope and schedule. The parallel workflow significantly reduced typical timelines.
