LiveOnAir™

LiveOnAir – Wireless Audio Latency <3.5 ms

Low latency audio is critical - and small delays impact usability, synchronisation, and trust.

LiveOnAir is Virscient’s low latency audio solution, designed to support real-time and wireless products that require predictable, end-to-end audio performance.

LiveOnAir delivers ultra-low latency digital wireless audio (analogue-to-analogue latency tunable to < 3.5 ms). It solves the problem of high delay in Bluetooth™ wireless links that affects live performance, monitoring, and pro audio use. This solution is designed for manufacturers of devices whose end-users include musicians, sound engineers, educators, house-of-worship presenters and live-streamers.
It is available on licence and ready for use for Nordic’s nRF53 and nRF54 Bluetooth LE® chipsets – low-cost components that provide the flexibility you need to create real differentiation for wireless audio devices where latency matters .

Challenges with audio latency

Audio Engineers working on low-latency wireless audio devices often face one or more of these challenges:

  • Wireless latency overhead makes real-time audio impossible for stage or monitoring scenarios.
  • Maintaining audio fidelity across multiple channels over distance is difficult.
  • Interference, multipath fading and packet loss degrade consistency.
  • Balancing RF range versus bandwidth versus power consumption is tricky.
  • Certification and interoperability across spectrum regimes add complexity.

The LiveOnAir solution:

LiveOnAir™ by Virscient solves these issues by:

  • Using proprietary optimised wireless protocols to minimise latency below 3 ms.
  • Supporting multi-channel high-definition audio (up to 24-bit / 96 kHz).
  • Supporting both point-to-point and point-to-multipoint topologies
  • Offering flexible RF transceivers for both short-range (10 m) and long-range (multi-km) use.
  • Building with a focus on robustness across interference and real-world conditions.
  • Delivering as a licensable software/hardware stack, easing integration, testing and certification.
  • Including industry-standard security mechanisms based on the NIST-approved Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) with Elliptic-Curve Diffie-Hellman (ECDH).
  • Supporting broadcast audio, with fallback to standards-based functionality such as Auracast™

Expected outcomes

By implementing LiveOnAir in your wireless-connected audio devices, you’ll achieve great results for your product and your end users:

  • Licensed solution reduces risk and cost for you, the manufacturer
  • Access to Virscient’s expertise in testing and certification to get you to market faster
  • Better experience for live performers who no longer suffer delays via their IEMs
  • Improved audio results from multi-link audio systems where latency would otherwise compound to unacceptable levels
  • Tangible and measurable competitive advantage over standard Bluetooth transmission
